Music Televisions Channels Taking Over The Industry

In terms of consumer spending habits, kids control the market. The way that a kid decides to purchase things is based on what they believe and associate with. The Music television channels currently on the air have managed to capture the attention of the youth market and become part of their culture. By becoming part of their culture, the kids are more likely to spend within their ecosystem and promote the brand.

The music channels originally just showed music videos and live shows. The current situation couldn’t be further from the truth.Didn’t catch that? This explains it. Currently, music channels show more about youth culture and counterculture than they do about music. They also feature the best new music in their youth oriented programming. By promoting their own music and brands within their shows, it only further reinforces their place in youth culture.

Most music purchases can be traced back to the major music television channels. Kids just tune in to learn what music is currently popular and then they go out and buy those tracks. The reality is that corporations in the background are dictating what the kids are listening to by pushing it out on the music television networks. This allows the Music television channels to control the industry.

Many new artists become darlings of the music tv channels and they quickly shoot into popularity. It isn’t all about making great music anymore, as you need the support of a bigger label or channel. This really keeps power within the music television channels.

It isn’t the worst thing that could happen, however many music lovers are turning to the internet as a way to “take back the music” from the television stations. The “indie” movement is a counter culture to the music television networks counter culture. Music will continually evolve and be what the listeners need.
